SOCIAL ARTISTRY

The art of leading discovery

Social artistry is the attempt to address or recognize a particular social issue using art and creativity. Luc and his fellow social artists use their creative skills to work with people or organizations in their community to affect change.

While a traditional artist uses their creative skills to express their take on the world, a social artist puts their skills to use to help promote and improve communities.

Social artists address issues like youth alienation or the breakdown of communities. They then use their skills as an artist to lead discovery by helping people express themselves and find their voice, or by bringing people together and using art to help them to foster an understanding of each other.

Social artists aim to improve society as a whole and to help other people find their own means of creative expression.

Making a difference in South Africa

Although Luc has travelled to some of the most vulnerable areas in Africa and the Middle East, his home is South Africa. He has returned to his roots to help local communities begin a process of healing. South Africa’s traumatic past has left high unemployment, malnourishment, poor education, and harsh living conditions in its wake.

Art is globally recognised for its power to heal, and Luc’s goal is to bring this power into South Africa’s poorest communities.

It’s only natural that under these continuing conditions, individuals and communities suffer from low self-esteem and find it difficult to implement solutions that alleviate these harsh realities.

Flowers for Africa

The project that is currently realizing Luc’s vision for art2uplift.org is Flowers for Africa, a painting workshop that is positively impacting children and their communities in some of the most neglected areas of South Africa.
